2010

It was in seventh grade--

--before I really knew anyone. Lunch just ended, so I was on my way back to pre-algebra, and I held the door open for whoever was behind me. Since everyone was coming at the same time, I ended up holding the door for most everyone else, but I didn't really mind. I mean, I wasn't going to let go, because, with my luck, the door would smack someone in the face, maybe break his or her nose, or somehow break my own nose (my luck, I'm telling you!). As I am (finally) going to my seat, this girl said something that I've always remembered. I guess it was supposed to be advice, but it had the opposite effect on me. She said that she used to be nice like me, too, but when you're nice like that, people just walk all over you. Knowing her, she was saying to no go out of my way for other people because they'll end up taking advantage. Maybe she was right. But I reacted the opposite way. I was fine with the idea of being people's doormat. In fact, I almost wanted to be someone's doormat. I figured, as long as I know, as long as I am allowing people to use or take advantage of my small favors, it would be okay. Because I was letting them, I was in control, and I could stop whenever I felt it was too much. So I guess her advice helped in a way. I don't know where I was going with this. I guess, nine years later, it's starting to take its toll. But I don't want to stop - actually, I don't think I could stop, because I would feel too guilty. I don't think that I've done a good job of the whole doormat thing necessarily, but oh well, whatever.

I finally finished

reading Fear Nothing two weeks ago, so here's the review [SPOILERS]:
What started out as seemingly body-snatchers average-Joe-with-rare-disease-turned-spy mystery was really... killer monkeys VS surf bums and radio disk jockeys. Chris Snow, the protagonist, has XP, a rare disease in which his DNA cannot repair itself after sun damage, which means any sunlight exposure can cause cancer and it always adds up, so he's not expected to live long. So his mad scientist mother goes to work for the government in a base that was supposed to be closed, combining bad and good DNA. She's really trying to cure him, but the government wants to use it to create a super-army. Of course, this is tested on research monkeys, or rhesuses. Aww, aren't the cute? Yes, until they eat your face. The DNA mutated (like this, not like this) and the monkeys became just as intelligent as humans. This basically pissed them off because they knew what they were capable of, but could never do. Apparently, before anyone realized, or maybe they just didn't care, they started experimenting on humans, trying to give them super strength. Instead, the humans reverted to their animal instincts, turning super disturbingly violent at nighttime.

I was very tempted to stop reading when I got to the killer monkeys. But I gave Dean Koons the benefit of the doubt, and kept on, thinking maybe there was more. Oh, there was more alright: super-genius household pets and people who talk to them, including the main character's dog. I don't know how I finished the book. But I did, and it ended with a battle between the grudge-holding first batch of research monkeys and a deranged infected man as their leader, and Chris, his best friend and girl friend. But... they only killed the killer monkeys. The human-infecting virus was still spreading like ebola and would eventually turn the whole world into savages.

AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER. One critic said that Fear Nothing will make you fear everything, but it just makes me fear other Dean Koons books... But The Husband and The Good Guy were SOOOOOOOOOOO good!! So I will keep reading... But first, I'm going to read Spindle's End.

I have decided [EDIT]

that on Saturday I am going to put on afternoon/high tea. I like saying, "High Tea" rather than "Afternoon Tea" because high tea just sounds cooler and like a more unique event whereas afternoon tea just sounds mundane and typical. Edit: My apologies. High tea and Afternoon tea are two very different things. High tea has like meat and eggs and is more meal like, whereas afternoon tea is just as pictured left. High tea is just more fun (and easier) to say...

But yes, Saturday, high tea at my apartment! And it's going to be legit - or at least as legit as the resources available to a starving artist/college student permits. Or the taste. Why would I ruin a perfectly good chicken sandwich with pine nuts? That makes me think of pine needles, which then makes me think of the infamous cat litter sandwich from the Little Rascals. We do NOT want that, we want this.

Anyhow, I'm going to get a fancy three-level plate (if I find one cheap. If not, I have a torch and know where Baylor keeps their metal rods. Build it and they will come - I now picture myself having high tea with pairs of animals). I am going to make chicken sandwiches, cucumber mint sandwiches, ham/parmigiano sandwiches, smoked salmon and dill cream cheese sandwiches (hold the salmon, probably), dundee/madeira cake (whichever is cheaper/available...), mini chocolate eclairs(!!), and Victorian sponge sandwiches. I found a website with the recipes. And we will have lots of tea (samples courtesy of the Baylor dining hall)! I'm also going to have to hold off on the fancy china, as I have none. It will be more fun with all the awesome mismatched mugs Jenni and I have - like the Central Perk on FRIENDS. And, to the side of the fancy three tiered plate, I might have all the extra sandwich stuff available on Hawaiian roles. And oreos. Because I'm not European.

Aaaaaaand that picture is from my first high tea in Ireland. Doesn't it look dreamy? Hmm, they had more sweet things. I think I will throw in, or substitute, strawberry shortcake!

Also, I now tumbl and have a SmugMug (at least until they start charging me).

Lovies,

More Than I Can Chew

Baylor parking sucks.

Not only do I have to get to campus 30 minutes early, but when I do get there super early, there is only one parking spot, which a truck speeds ahead of me to get. Thanks, jerk. Then, after trying to follow two people to their cars like a psycho car-stalker only to have them stolen from me by two other jerks (just because you are in your car does NOT mean you can ignore the code of chivalry. I CAN STILL SEE YOU). Then I finally find a spot that just opened and no one has taken it because it is in compact parking between two SUVs (in compact parking) which have each parked on the yellow line. I had to CLIMB OVER MY CAR to get out. I forgot to consider getting back in until the end of class. I thought I was going to have to climb in through the trunk, and go through that little whole behind the middle seat. Luckily, I could climb back over....

Why don't you take the bus next time?

I wish. I have to go from class to work and don't have time to take the bus...

Bike?

A viable option, except I need a basket for my lunch and I can't be all sweaty and nasty at work....And what if it rains?

I might take the bus anyway and risk being late, just to see. Because when I got to class, the lights weren't even on yet, that's how early I was. This is ridiculous. Last week, I parked in 45 minute Starbucks parking but the parking nazi was leaning on the back of his car just waiting to catch people! I showed him; I went into Starbucks and straight out the back door, all the way around. I didn't get a ticket, but I bet that doesn't work twice....

But on a happier note, I went dancing last weekend with Desnekka and her hubby, as well as his best friend, Spencer. We went to a country western place, which isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I'm not picky, I just want to get out and do something. It wasn't that bad, my two-stepping is getting better.... I can tell, because Spencer hasn't killed me yet. I think he gave up on trying to turn me, and just picked me up to do it. I thought it was fun, until I caught on. But then I got better at turning lol. No one else asked me to dance, except for a 60 something year old man...and not like aww dance with the grandpa! kinda situation. But it was still a lot of fun!

Tuesday: Swing dancing!!!

Same bat time, same bat place, same bat sprinkler system

Ahh first day of classes. Missed my bus, still made it to class on time. Avoided the sprinklers that were still aimed at the sidewalk. Lost my phone, found my phone. Meal plan didn't go through, but I got lunch anyway. All in 100-113 degrees, but nothing can faze me, I'm invincible!

Spanish, boring; Fitness, yay working out twice a week with a heart rate monitor; Art history, thank goodness I have a friend in there for three hours AND it's only once a week.

Tomorrow, 8 AM Design Methods where we THINK about graphic design, but at least I like my teacher. Then, after three hours of that, three hours of figure drawing, then three hours of oil painting... at least that will be short tomorrow.

But I am refusing to give up my summer! I had SO much fun.
Desnekka was so awesome and let me come over after work and hang out a lot. We went roller blading, which I haven't done since I moved from Denton! It was very fun. We also played a lot of board games, including Mancala, which no one else plays with me lol. And we had an interesting sleep over party that included her husband and his best friend, Spencer, and a few other games, all of which will forever remain a secret. Ha. I also got to see Avery, the cutest baby EVER! Who is now 1 year old! And probably still covered in cake from her birthday last Sunday.

I also had a pool party and got to see some people I hadn't seen in a summer or two! Jessica and Heather came, along with their boyfriends, Mike, and Keith (who I knew from senior year), as well as Jenni, Desnekka and Avery. It was nice to catch up and hang out. Jessica and I worked near each other and got to have lunch twice :)

I ran. A lot. With my darling puppies! They enjoyed it for a mile or two. Once, Daisy just laid down. In the middle of running. But most of the time we made it all the way around the neighborhood (3-4 miles? so 6-8 total? sweeeeeeeet), and went straight to the swimming pool as soon as we got back. Which, with two crazy dogs is even harder than the jogging. So I got more of a work out fighting those suckers off and keeping myself from drowning. And that meant I got more tan than I have ever been in my life! The running and the swimming also led to me losing some weight. I am pretty impressed with myself for all that.

Then for Heather's birthday I was invited to go with Jessica and Mike to College Station, which I did. And... I went dancing! At clubs and bars. ME. That's right, I danced! It was awesome, so much fun! I mean, I did a lot of sitting too, but I was still having fun. And I got to wear my new dress I got from Forever XXI (thank you, Mimi, for the birthday gift card, thanks XXI for the 2 gift cards and 10% off coupon, and thank you The Woodlands Mall for the $10 birthday card - and I still have $6 left after the dress and two shirts!) AND I had zero to drink. Except a sip of whatever Heather (yeah, that same Heather!) had.

And of course I worked at Anadarko! I made the logos for my dad's group's golf tournament, so I'll get a shirt with my logo stitched on! And I got to play around with an awesome 3D program! AND I got asked back for Christmas break already!!

AND my professor from my two classes this summer recommended me for a paid internship at a company's Waco location! They liked my portfolio and asked me to apply. I'm just waiting on them to set up an interview now.... It doesn't sound as fun as Anadarko, but it will be excellent for my resume and in addition to doing some work I like, I will also learn a TON. So even if my classes aren't the most thrilling, I'm still looking forward to this semester.

While at the same time, refusing to give up the summer completely. Because we (Dee, Jenni, Katy, Hannah, Mahveen, Paige, Janis, and Lucille - my  camera) are all going to Lake Waco for a picnic and some beach fun this Saturday! I refuse to give up my tan now that we have found each other.

Things My Absentee Best Friend Should Tell Me:

1) Remember when she said she might come visit (it pains me to use this term when I refer to) Texas in August? I have good news for her! It's August. Now where's my good news? (Emphasis on the word good.)

2) How have her classes been? What was she even taking?

3) How has her summer been? What does she do outside of work and school?

4) Boys. I know there's at least one.

5) What she thinks about the new Avatar stuff. Let's start with the movie.

6) Psych? Leverage? Meg from Veronica Mars taking over the world, one of my favorite shows at a time?

7) That she's going to come visit me at Baylor soon because I've been to (freakin' far away, high in the sky, in a bowl, surrouned by year-round snow-capped mountains) Provo, what is it, three times now? and she's been to Baylor...once? So that we can go tortilla tossing, to brunch, to church-with-me-for-once-'cause-she's-never-been-but-I've-been-to-SEMINARY-with-her-in-Magnolia-and-several-times-to-Sunday-church-in-Utah-and-I-think-I-might-know-more-about-their-church-hierarchy-than-I-do-my-own, so we can see an old movie for .50c, meet crazies in the library again (never fails to be entertaining), sneak into the Draper attic and have a campout, swim my in my apartment's dangerous two-and-a-half foot deep pool (we should invest in floaties), to have an old fashion, sleeping-bag-Disney-movie-sleepover, to name a few.

8) That we should skype (once I fix my computer...)

9) The size of the new monitor she got.

10) Her plan for after graduation!

Things I Should Tell My Bestie:

0) She should tell me these things by phone! I miss her voice.

.5) That's 0 and this is .5 because I'm too lazy to renumber. Again.

1) She's the only one who sometimes reads my blog, so I can pull stunts like this. Look out!

2) Suessland (because, um, hello?)

4) She told me that she didn't use the email I used to send her stuff on, and to send it to a different email. I tired that, I don't think it worked (I just got confirmation that it did work!)

5) About Katy's wedding.

6) About Desnekka's baby!!!

7) Maybe about the unmentionable goatee...thing... if I'm feeling up to it and manage to keep all the laughter that's going on in my head just thinking about it quiet so the people at work don't call the men in white coats (oh man, if they have comical goatees too, I'm so screwed) to carry me off to a nice, safe, rubber room where they have nuts. Nuts? I like nuts. They make me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a padded room. I liked it there; I died there. They buried me; the flowers grew. One grew up, one grew down. One tickled my toes - it drove me nuts. I seriously forgot what I was saying. I remembered: Yes, I'm writing this at work. But I wrote it at lunch (at least, that's when I started...)!

8) I bet she was wondering where 3) went. It's up next.

3) I LOVE HER!

9) And the numbering for this is why I don't do math.

10) That I just got a post from her on Facebook :) and I remembered the rest of number 7!

Adrenaline Junkie

I think I'm on my way to becoming one. I've always loved roller coasters (well, since I had enough couage and encouragement to ride my first "upside-down" one in the sixth grade), but now I'm realizing I like extreme sports much better than team sports (except for soccer!). Or maybe it's because I just spent two weeks riding roller coasters, skydiving in a wind tunnel (Kazanaa! haha), snorkeling with sting rays, parasailing, and jet skiing. We would have gone scuba diving too, but the visibility was crap. I have a very short bucket list that is actually written out. However, the stuff I did in Florida should definitely have been on it!

Here's the whole thing list form:
Day 1 [Orlando]: Arrive at 9M, Gatorland, La Nouba (Cir Du Soleil) after walking around Downtown Disney
Day 2 [Orlando - Tampa]: Busch Gardens
Day 3 [Orlando]: Aquatica and Seaworld
Day 4 [Orlando]: Wet 'n Wild
Day 5 [Orlando]: switched hotels and went to Islands of Adventure (straight to Hogsmeade/Hogwarts!), watched Disney fireworks from the roof of the California Grill, where we had dinner
Day 6 [Orlando]: Explored Hard Rock Hotel, Universal and Island of Adventures (this is when Mom and I went back in the evening and were the last two people in Hogwarts/Hogsmeade)!
Day 7 [Orlando]: More Universal and Islands of Adventure! Hogwarts and Hogsmeade photos during the day. The first time we were there, we just rushed to make sure we could do everything. This time we went through much slower so we wouldn't miss anything, explored the shops more. We had a delicious meal that included scrumptious pumpkin juice, a cauldron cake, and a chocolate frog!
Day 8 [Orlando]: iFly/Sky Venture indoor Skydiving! And we left Orlando for Key Largo.
Day 9 [Key Largo]: drove from Orlando to Key Largo, through the everglades and over the bridge from True Lies, and went to two famous eating spots.
Day 10 [Crystal River]: We swam/snorkeled with wild mantees and then went scalloping. We had a restaurant cook them for us!
Day 11 [Sannibell Island]: Went to a famous tourist spot/market, then we went with a couple out into the Gulf on their boat for dinner and to watch the sunset.
Day 12 [Key West]: Walked around Key West. Breakfast at the famous Blue Heaven (TBS, anyone?), stopped by Hemmingway's house, Key West Cemetery, went to where Highway 1 starts (mile 0), watched some street performers and the sunset, then walked down that one street with all the bars and shops.
Day 13 [Key West]: We went on a boat tour that included breakfast, snorkeling, lunch, jet skiing, parasailing, and they had a trampoline and inflatable slide/rock wall, neither of which were as cool as they sound but still fun.
Day 14: just packed up and went home, sightseeing from the car as we drove through Miami and stopped at a famous market where I got a dragonfruit smoothie! Mmmm....

Some memorable details:

We started out in Orlando, where we went to six, count them, SIX, theme parks! The first one we went to was actually in Tampa, and it was the best one: Busch Gardens. It had the most roller coasters, but also had a safari/zoo, and a bunch of other stuff. The other five theme parks were Universal, Islands of Adventure (also owned by Universal and even though it's next door, it's a separate park), Wet 'n Wild, Aquatica, and Sea World. One ticket got us into all those parks. Also, my evil genius mother figured out how we could get into the Hogwarts/Hogsmeade section of Islands of Adventure an hour before the park opened! Heard about six hour waits just to get into the Harry Potter section? And the 8 hour lines to get to Ollivander's?

We didn't even wait twenty minutes. Ollivander's isn't even a ride, but it's typically the longest wait. You go into an exact replica of Ollivander's wand shop from the movies, where an actor chooses a kid to find a wand. He tests a few and has the kid say a spell. The first two go wrong, and stuff actually happens in the room. A vase broke, wands shot off the wall - I went there three times and something new happened every time. The third one works and then you go into the Dervish and Banges, where they have more wands, Hogwarts cloaks/uniform stuff, Monster Book of Monsters that actually bites, Sneakscopes, Remembralls, Quaffles, etc, etc. If you look at the ceiling, they have a Nimbus 2001, Firebolt, and a Cleansweep that hover. There are 3 rides in that area. One is the kiddie ride, and it's called Flight of the Hippogriff. The only real roller coaster is the racing dragons one. The line is decorated like the first task of the Triwizard cup and you're going to fight your dragon. Also, Ron's car is out front for some reason and so is Hagrid's hut (it looks like they might add onto the park behind it). There are two different tracks and the dragons "race." There's a part where the roller coasters are coming straight at each other, but you only get the full effect if you're sitting in the front. When you're at the front of the line, the ceiling is decorated like a tent and you can see the silhouettes of dragons moving "outside." They really went all out. The other ride is part coaster, part virtual. It is amazingly well done; sometimes you can't tell which is virtual and which is real. This is the Forbidden Journey ride that goes through Hogwarts. Even the line to get there is a lot of fun. They have the Mirror of Erised, the humpback witch statue that marks the secret passage to Hogsmeade, then you're back outside the castle in the Herbology classroom. It's also decorated really well and along one of the walls, there are a bunch of Mandrakes. Luckily, they don't cry. Then you go back inside and can see statues of Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Sytherin. Another wall has the house points. At the end of the hall is the hippogriff that leads up to Dumbledore's office, but first you go through the tall room that has pictures from the floor the ceiling. The ones of the heads of houses move and talk, discussing Harry Potter. They did an AMAZING job on these pictures! They look EXACTLY like the movie ones, very believable. That room then leads to Dumbledore's office, complete with a surprisingly convincing hologram of Dumbledore himself that talks to you while you're in his room - the walls of which are decorated with all sorts of knicknacks you see in the movies, including the pensieve. You go from there to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, just like when Remus taught there. It has a hologram of Ron, Hermione, and Harry telling you about the ride you're about to have, and Ron makes it snow by accident (foam falls from the ceiling). Then you go passed the moving/talking portrait of the Fat Lady and into the Gryffindor Common Room where more paintings talk and demonstrate how to ride the ride, which is the next. When you get on, the ceiling has the floating candles. The ride is really fun and it's the only thing that creeped me out... It starts with a Floo Powder powered trip, courtesy of Hermione, through the chimneys (half real, half virtual) where you catch up to Ron and Harry who are flying on brooms (and so are you thanks to Hermione again - virtual). You follow them to where a dragon has gotten loose (thanks for that, Hagrid), it chases you and breathes fire at you (real). You go through the Forbidden Forest where there are a LOT of giant, spitting spiders (real!! and that's what creeped me out...). From there, you go to the Whomping Willow (real), a welcome sight after the spiders.... then you find yourself in the middle of a Quidditch match, and Malfoy is rude to you (virtual). Dementors, party-crashers that they are, ruin the match and then your thrown into another dark and creepy place where dementors pop out at you (real and also freaky!! They never bothered me in the book/movies, but when they're in your face, it's another story completely. But still fun.) So the only way to get rid of the Dementors is happy thought...Somewhere in the ride (I think in the spiders, which is odd), your picture is taken. During the Dementor portion, fog comes down and your picture is projected on to it, along with the 3 other people you can ride with. So my happy thought was my family. Or strangers. But a cool idea! Then Harry does his expecto patronum thing and for some reason all of Hogwarts cheers for you (virtual) before another Floo Powder trip back to where you started. The whole time your seat is moving and dropping and stuff, just like a coaster, so it was a REALLY cool ride. And the second time I rode it, I was the last one on! (So my projected picture was just me lol.) Everyone who worked there was really nice. My mom was waiting with my camera in the child swap and then she and I were the last two people to walk through Hogsmeade!! So we had it ALL TO OURSELVES. It was  so cool. In Hogsmeade, you can eat at the Three Broomsticks and get drinks at the Hogshead. They had cold butterbeer and frozen butterbeer, both of which were good, but very sweet - it was hard to finish one. It also has Zonko's, Honeydukes, Ollivander's, Dervish and banges, and the and Owl Post. There are a lot of other stores that you can't go into, but have really cool stuff going on in the windows on the first and second stories. We spent 3 days at the 2 Universal parks. Island of Adventure also had a comic book hero section (the Hulk!!), Dr Seuss, Jurassic Park, and the Lost Continent. Seussland was REALLY cool but sadly I didn't go back to it when I had my camera :( We spent the first day at Gatorland and Busch Gardens. Also in Orlando, we went to Aquatica and Seaworld one day. Wet 'n Wild another.

We also went INDOOR SKYDIVING. Which was EXCELLENT. But hard... lol. They have a giant fan in the floor and they put you in all this gear and you go in for a minute at a time with an instructor. I was only in for two minutes 'cause you pay by the minute. IT was a LOT of fun but hard to explain... We have a video of it though. Advice: You'll want to grin like a fool when you're in the there. Unless you want to see your drool shoot to the ceiling, don't do it. But that's better than it running down your chin, so it's not that bad! Now I kind of want to try sky diving.

Another night, a couple took us out on their boat for dinner and we watched the sunset. Oh, I almost forgot! The first night we were there, we went to see Circ Du Soleil, La Nouba! It was pretty darn cool. Sadly, no photography allowed.

Hemmingway's house was also really cool. He was apparently a crazy cat guy and had over 50 at his house. They even have their own house modeled after his. He lived in Key West for about 9 years and wrote his most famous works here. After he divorced his second wife, he moved to Cuba. He had a cat named Snowball. Today, there are 46 cats at the Hemmingway House, and they are all descendants of Snowball! Also, his crazy 2nd wife took out all their ceiling fans to install French chandeliers. I really dislike her for this because it was about a million and five degrees. Also, apparently Picasso was a fan of Hemmingway, because he made him a funky cat sculpture, which was in the house until two years ago, when some local loco ripped it from its place nailed to a piece of furniture and stole it. The police figured out whodunnit, but he literally saw them coming and smashed it to bits... WHAT A JERK. Other interesting Hemmingway facts? He was the first American in WWII to be injured in Italy. He was 18. He, along with his actress granddaughter, Margot Hemmingway, and his father, and probably some other relatives, all committed suicide.

If I come up with any more details, I'll post about them later. This is long enough I think....

btw, that take 365 pictures challenge? I think I just caught up.

I have a book!!!

I made it myself!! It's lurrrrrrrve.

And now I'm home for the summer! Kind of. Let's see, tomorrow I'm seeing The Last Airbender (fingers crossed) with some friends and family and possible going to the nail salon. Maybe I can squeeze in a haircut too... I'm thinking about getting legit bangs. Sunday is July 4, which means preparing for it all day, parents' party at 6, fireworks at 9. Monday I'm going to hang out with my mom, maybe go shopping or get my hair cut if I don't tomorrow. Tuesday I'm going into Houston to take my drug test for work. Again. And packing for Florida trip, which I leave for on Wednesday, and don't get back until the 20th, followed by work the next day until school starts mid-August. Busy, busy, busy!

What, more Butch Walker lyrics? M'kay :3
"Days/Months/Years"

I took a shot of morphine just to smell the fear in my heart

and I felt the rush of hesitence, scared to commit from the start
So I kissed a man in reno just to watch him puke
Now I got more issues than just trying to forget about you

I spent half of that whole day sober

And the other half dazed and confused
And what little bit left just trying to forget about you

I saw you at the galley, he was working his way up your skirt

He was buying all the rounds, baby, but you're gonna pay for dessert
So I pissed in his gas tank while you were at his place
Then I siphoned it back out and went upstairs to spit it back in his face

I spent the half of that first week healthy

And the other rid with the flu
And what little bit left just trying to forget about you

Six drinks, two deep at a party for a friend of a friend

My mouth was moving like a muscle but my heart dead set on sin
So I stumbled to the bathroom with who anyone who'd come
The only girl that did was married to the sherriff's son
Now I'm handcuffed to the toilet half naked with my mouth on his gun

I spent the half of that year in prison

The other half black and blue
And what little bit left trying to forget about you

We spent half of my life together

Spent the other half coming unglued
And what little time I got left trying to forget about you

That man cracks me up!!!

When Gravity and Life Join Forces

Lately, I've been taking my dogs and my roommate's dog on jogs/long walks around the neighborhood. It's been good for me since I'm not playing intramural soccer this semester and good for Freja because the poor puppy is trapped in the apartment 24/7 since there's no place for her to run around here. I've never run for fun before in my life, but I have fun taking the dogs and Butch Walker with me.

This post isn't about that. It's about just before that. I've got these athletic shorts that have a tiny pocket on the inside where only my apartment key fits. I'm standing in the hallway after I've locked the apartment door. As I'm putting my key in my pocket, I drop it down my pants. Whups. No big deal, it'll fall out the other end and no one has to know, right?

Wrong. These special athletic shorts also have a sewn-in underwear thing that caught the key. And now I'm locked out. By the way, if you drop Freja's leash, she takes off. Luckily, she didn't notice when that happened. So I was trapped in the hallway, forced to dig through my shorts to get my key before someone came out and saw me.

I figure this embarrassing story is safe to send out into the world because only one person actually looks at this specific corner of the world. Also, I think it's pretty funny. But still, let's not go around telling everyone.

Ooh, and in school news:
- One week left!! Wow.
- Our first assignment in Type and Image was to design and mail out Exhibition Calendar for the campus museum and Jenni's calendar, this other girl's calendar, and my calendar were the finalists! I'm not sure which one they will pick officially yet but I didn't expect her to choose mine so I'm still pretty happy. And if Jenni wins I'll still be happy (but not surprised lol) and the other girl is really nice too. I'm pretty sure she was in my figure drawing class and the one day that it was canceled, and pouring down rain, she drove me to my apartment so I wouldn't have to wait for the bus.
- I GET TO MAKE A BOOK(!) based on a song (CD included). And a fantasy world, and a vector self-portrait, and a trippy self-portrait, by which I mean you pick a word like self-mutilated (why did I think of that first?) and it's a picture of someone chopping themselves up with a chainsaw or something.

and i love this song hahaha

OH HOW I LAUGHED

hahahahahahhaha............

So seeing my previous entry, the Dawn Treader trailer, made me want to list my all time favorite things. I wanted to write them down just for me but, as I was failing to find paper, I remembered I had a blog for things like this. These are things that are more than just  "favorite movie," or "favorite book." I don't really know how to explain it, but you just have to go with it. Some of them are material things that became something more to me, I guess. I'll do a shortlist and then a detailed one.

1. God
2. Narnia (books, movies, drama cds, you name it)
3. Butch Walker
4. Wicked the Musical

1. God: Obviously not one of the material things. He's been there for me longer than anyone else, never changing, never failing. There's a lot of things I don't know, but without a doubt, I know He's always watching over me. I'd be dead so many times over, a lot of those I probably didn't even notice. I also have nothing to complain about it.

2. Narnia: Another one of those things that's been with me so long, and it also reflects my number one since The Lion/Witch/Wardrobe is the story of Christ, The Magician's Nephew is creation, Prince Caspian is Moses, The Last Battle is Revelation, etc. And the stories themselves are amazing. They were some of the first books I ever read. I watched all the old movies that were half cartoon and Lucy had the same dress as I did. I'm pretty sure Heaven and Narnia have a lot in common.

3. Butch Walker: I learned a lot from this man, which is probably really weird. Thirteen-year-old me discovered his music by accident, thanks to Kazaa automatically downloading "music I might like," and have loved him ever since. A lot of his lyrics reflect ideas that I already lived by, like being original from My Way (So you grew up in a town where everybody's all the same / Like a city full of zombies going by the same name ... I don't want to be the one who does everything like I'm told to). He taught me to tell people the truth about how I felt about them - because you never know when the last time is the last time - in my favorite song of all time, If (Jeannie's Song) (If I could be the chains I'd fall from you and let you fly like an angel / If I could be the pain I'd run from you, so far away / If I could turn the time back just one day, It might just be enough to say, all the things I never said to you / And what you don't know won't hurt you / What you don't show will kill you). I also admire is music genius. Not only are his songs so unique and amazing, (although a lot are silly), but they're also admirable (I'm thinking of Trouble and State Line...). He also fulfills the definition of a true musician because he plays practically every instrument, produces so many bands of various genres (his own band The Marvelous 3, Pete Yorn [three tiems], Bowling for Soup [twice], SR-71, Sevendust, Avril Lavigne [three times], Simple Plan, Midtown, The Donnas, American Hi-Fi, Lindsay Lohan [some of these I wonder...WHY? but oh well], P!NK [twice], Family Force 5, The Academy Is..., The Honorary Title, Hot Hot Heat, Katy Perry, Secondhand Serenade, All Time Low, Weezer, Saosin, Dashboard Confessional, Never Shout Never - to name a few) and yet it seems like hardly anyone know who he is. I'm a little disturbed I wrote more in this section than the God section, but I figure God should be obvious, Butch Walker isn't, lol. I find myself analyzing his songs and stuff, which tells me that I really like it.

4. Wicked: It's more than a musical. It also reflects stuff I've believed since childhood - don't judge. Your worst enemy could turn out to be the best friend you've ever had. I found myself analyzing this, too. The metaphors in the songs... You find love (not just romantic) in the strangest and least expected of places. Dancing through life, and the strange thing: You're life could up changing while you're dancing through!

I will think of more, but for now I have to go to sleep b/c I have class at dawn (8).

Return to Narnia

I freakin' love Narnia. There are really no words. They've done an amazing job with the movies so far. I bet Fox will do even better because Disney is lame and greedy. I'm pretty sure that is a fallacy, but I don't care. Narnia has been my favorite thing since I was 6. Aside from God and my family, I can't say that about anything else.

Let down your...

Pants. HAHA. Sorry, my little Georgia Nicolson that is inside us all leaked out there for a minute. Basically, the short and short of it is that Disney released the teaser trailer for their 3D Rapunzel movie called Tangled. I'm bummed that Kristin Chenoweth isn't going to be in it, but at least Zachary Levi, and Ewan McGregor are going to be! I'm also bummed I don't know anyone as hot as the animated guy in real life.

Have some music while you read! Just click that weird shape you see below:

I wish I knew how to just get it to play while you read but I'm not that skilled. Yet. Bwahaha! However. You need to hear the Tangled preview anyway ;)

Also, I played in Photoshop today :)

Stop Motion

Cool, no?

In other news, Stephenie Meyer came out with a new book, except it's not new... or a book. The short and short of it is that she wrote a short story about Bree, a random vampire in Eclipse I've already forgotten about, that wound up being 192 pages. She's letting fans read it for free online at www.breetanner.com, which will be up for a month or so starting in June. People also have the option to buy the story in official book form for $13.99 as well, and $1 from each book purchased will be donated to the Red Cross. Here's the official press release. And here's how I feel about Stephenie Meyer: she is good at creating interesting (yet sometimes insanely annoying) characters/character development and coming up with somewhat creative twists to already-been-done-but-are-still-good-anyway-because-they're-classic plots. And she is a wonderful human being, but she needs to write something new. Preferably under a pen name, but one that I know is her, 'cause I'm gonna wanna read it and see how I feel about it the second time around, ya know?

In much better and more prevalent to me news, David is coming to see me tomorrow!! I'm so excited :) I haven't seen him in... too long. And I'm going to Denton for Easter... and my brother's (18th!!!!!!) birthday. Which is cool; I love Denton and it will be nice to see my grandparents again...but I was looking forward to going home and getting to see my puppy (who may or may not be coming to Denton too...) and hanging out with Lindsey and relaxing there and what not. I wonder if the pool is good to swim in yet... probably not. Anyway, Denton...good things... oh yeah! I can take pictures there for my photo class so it will be nice to have new subjects. I would like to be posting pictures here everyday but 1) I feel like all the pictures I took for class are basically crap, 2) my personal digital camera broke and adds crap lines to all the photos, 3) the camera I have for class (which is naaaaaaaaice!) uses a CF card, which does not fit into my laptop and I have no cord. I could use my portable harddrive, but it's formatted for a mac... which I do not have. But the plan is for me to take David to this Greek style garden thing Waco built for no apparent reason in the middle of town at some point and take some pictures, but I doubt that happens... 'cause it sounds boring to me, so unless we go on a picnic, yeah. But I do want to go there sometime! Just maybe when he's here for more than a day. We're also going to see How to Train Your Dragon!! So there may not be time for ancient Greek picnics, but I'm okay with that this time around...

Distant echoes of 'wo ai ni' lead me to you

This just makes me soooo happy every time I watch it... both the video and Fushigi Yuugi, but it's really just Fushigi Yuugi. Idk exactly what it is... just the story and the characters are so amazing.... It's probably silly that it makes such a difference, but when I'm feeling sad or lonely to the point that not even my Pokemon can cheer me up (I kid... kind of ), this does the trick. Yuu Watase... you are an amazing storyteller and I ENVY YOU AND YOUR POWER. SO. MUCH.
Tamahome... and Miaka (you moron)... all the stuff they went through... and they still... GAH!! It just gets me!! I'm so happy now I can barely stand it! I mean, just look how pretty!~

I wasn't going to force my boyfriend to watch it... but now I have decided. Him, me, and mezamete-yuku tamashii hikaridasu mou hitotsu no sekaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii this summer!!!!!

Sigh~

Omg I still have a blog?

I'm not dead. Just secretive. I woke up at one this afternoon, showered and got ready to assist in a photo shoot, assisted in the photo shoot, got back around nine and was ready to go to sleep. Isn't that pathetically sad? So instead of going to straight to bed, I decided to do something exciting.

I beat Pokemon Ruby. Ha, and you thought my day was going to get less lame. I am dying to play the new Pokemon games that just came out (Soul Silver/Heart Gold) but, alas, I do not have a DS, DSi, or DS Lite. Jeez. I feel so old and behind in the times. My brother had a DS but he (FRUSTRATION) sold it. Can you read my frustration between the lines? He said he might get it back. Meanwhile, I'm tempted to buy the game and borrow my roommate's DSi while she isn't playing Pokemon. Then I could ask for a DS of some kind for my birthday. Or I could ask for both, but it's so far away....

Enough about that! Even though my darling boyfriend says I'm that much better because I like Pokemon... Oh, how fortune smiles upon me. Well, not most of the time. Today, right before the photo shoot, I tried to sit down in one of those theater chairs but it popped up before I sat down and instead I nearly fell on the floor. One of the symphony girl's mothers laughed at me. Jee, thanks old lady. Good thing I'm used to tripping and stumbling so I can keep myself from actually falling. I was wearing a skirt too. But at least I got the fortune where it counts :)

I think I just ran out of creative juices. Oh well, onward anyway. Nope, my mind is now on a single track...the boyfriend track :) I just can't stop thinking about that boy and his amazingness :) I'm really glad he got to come visit me on his spring break for a few days. He came with me to my acrylic painting class and got to watch me paint. It was good timing because my teacher decided he wanted to put up my second painting in the hallway so it made me look good even though I don't really like the painting much lol. Class was a lot of fun with him there, for me anyway. He was probably bored some, but I guess better not doing anything in my class with me than in my apartment without me. Oh, I found out today that Colbie Callait is coming to perform at Baylor for our annual holiday called Diadeloso which is Thursday, April 22nd this year, and means NO THURSDAY CLASSES!!! I'm not really a Colbie fan, but she does sing Fallin' For You, which is mine and my boyfriend's song...teehee. I wish he could come, but he has classes on Thursday... Although anyone who wants to can come!! It's going to be AWESOME! Free concerts, free shirts, $10 shirts, supervised drunk driving, random inflatable stuff, everyone brings their dog, etc! Okay, it's now passed midnight, so I think I can safely go to sleep now... ZzZz...

Follow Up

If anyone was wondering what would happen if someone did take Butch Walker's fourth option for $25,000 dollars, here is the answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-o2D1q-060

Hero

In times like these, we need a hero.

http://en.tackfilm.se/?id=1265849015919RA24

Look at me, posting everyday?! I clearly have a lot of homework to put off.

Speaking of heroes, NEW FULL-LENGTH LAST AIRBENDER TRAILER!

If I had $25,000

There's a lot I could do with $25,000. I could put it towards school, more/better art supplies, groceries, etc. I could donate some of it. I could pay my rent. I could save some for my future house, life, kid(s), etc.
Or, I could pre-order Butch Walker's new CD

You have to click it to view full size and understand.

Option number four please! Who knows if he's serious about that or not. I bet he would do it if someone bought it. Now what if 300 people went for it? Dang. If I ever get even semi-famous, I'm definitely going to make an offer like this. You see why I love him?

"I believe

that Aang can save the world." Thank you M Night Shamalama (I know that's not really his name, but it's a lot more fun to say) for The Last Airbender movie updates! First, there was a short, but awesome TV spot released for the movie, which you can feast your eyes on here. At :09, you can see Appa in the top left corner, looking awesome, and just like the cartoon! Can't really tell about the acting there, but the effects look amazing.... I can't wait to see Momo! I think they're going to make it as close to the story as possible, judging by the allusion to the cartoon when Sokka and Katara are standing together, just like on the show when they were watching their dad leave.

www.TheLastAirbenderMovie.com is also updated with a few new wallpapers of Zuko, Aang, and one of Aang and Katara. There's also one of an earth bender looking person who could be Suki. That would be interesting, seeing as how they didn't make one for poor Sokka. Probably he was too busy on the day of the photo shoot sucking the blood of Kataang fans. But maybe that means Suki will have a much more important role in the trilogy than she did in the show. Aang in the Avatar State also looked really cool!

So yeah. I'm pretty dang excited for July 2nd, except I'll be in Waco. Finishing up summer school, which ends July 3rd. One day. ONE. I really wanted to see this movie at midnight too.... Maybe I still will. We'll see what my final will be lol.... Maybe I can take it early.
"And why do you have to take your test early?"
"Well professor, I have to see a movie at midnight. If I don't, I may die. Probably. Not."

On another note, thank goodness it's FRIDAY!

Last Weekend...

Was awesome. Threw The Boyfriend an epic surprise party with Lindsey/Agent Liz Carmichael.

Grew mustaches.

Impersonated Dora.

Broke into David's room while he was at work and decorated.

:)

Walkin' on Sunshine

There will be a thirty second long TV spot for The Last Airbender during the superbowl. The full two minute theatrical trailer will be released before Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief Februrary second. Yesss. That is going to be a VERY good weekend.

Meanwhile, I've been listening to the Glee soundtrack alllllllllllllll day long. And I must say...

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they're tumbling down
They didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound

It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more (I'm walking on sunshine, wooah)
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo (I'm walking on sunshine, wooah)

And don't it feel good!

Yeah. I'm that happy :)

Cloudy With A Chance of Shindigging

I hope you had a good weekend 'cause I know I did, especially on Friday when Hannah and Katy came over and we had an awesome shindig. Katy came over earlier and we played some Rock Band 2 until Hannah got there. Then Hannah, Katy, Jenni and I sat down to watch Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, one of the best, funniest movies on the planet.

Following the movie, Jenni went to her boyfriend's apartment on the third floor and the rest of us played Truth or Dare because I got the app on my iTouch. The two best things that came of it was the open dare I got, which meant Hannah and Katy got to pick instead of letting the iTouch (Gertie) choose. So Katy suggested I go to the neighbors (none of which I know) and ask to borrow an ice cube. So I did, taking a frying pan to carry it. Unfortunately, of the three doors I knocked on, no one answered. Then I realized we knew that Steven and Jenni were upstairs. So I went to Steven's and asked to borrow an ice cube, pictured left :)

Then Hannah got a dare that said blindfold the person opposite and have them feed you a glass of water. So we blindfolded Katy with my sock. She did a good job, but it was funny anyway ;)

Oh, and I passed that Spanish test that nearly killed me. I either made an 88 or a 94, depending on whether or not she checks her math (yes, I pointed out the error...ugh. But I still did a lot better than I thought! And only three other people made As, aside from my possible 94).

Ghostbusters

Okay so the lovely Symantha mentioned something about a project 365 in which people (her sisters) post a picture for every day of the year. I thought it was a really cool idea and wanted to do that too. But I'm making up my own rules because that makes life more interesting. The pictures that I post will usually be by me, but maybe not ones that I took that day. Sometimes, such as the picture today, will not be by me. And I probably won't do it every day, but I'll try to get 365. So the picture of the day today is one my awesome roommate Jenni showed me, and it's one the only two people who might read this will enjoy. So feast your eyes upon it if you haven't already:

Yesssssssssss. This is also very fitting because new episodes start up tomorrow!! Yay for TV shows coming back. Although, it's almost too much. Monday: How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Chuck; Tuesday: White Collar, Wednesday: Leverage, Psych; Thursday: Supernatural. Nothing on Fridays? Legend of the Seeker during the weekend. Whew. In other news, tengo un examen de espanol manana y... I don't remember ANYTHING. I haven't taken/practiced Spanish since my junior year of high school (I feel old) and not so much even then because my Spanish teacher was a git/alien who didn't speak ANY language. So speaking of Spanish. Has anyone heard of Laura K Webb? Apparently she's a country/Christian/acoustic singer. And she's in my Spanish class. She's probably not famous, but it's cool anyway. Just found out haha.

Uh yeah so I wrote all that last night/this morning but never published it because I was studying so hard for Spanish and then I went to sleep at 6:15 planning to get up at 9:30 so I could finish my Spanish assignments by 11 when the test was. But my alarm somehow got on PM instead of AM. So I woke up at...10:48. Naturally, I FREAKED OUT, got ready insanely fast, parked in visitor parking and somehow made it to class by 10:58. Took the test, which didn't make me cry, but who knows how many sleep-crazed mistakes I made, and moved my car, luckily before I got a ticket. Then I was a horrible student and skipped the rest of my classes. I'm supposed to be in acrylic painting right now. Took a nice nap instead :) But not too long so I can't get to sleep tonight.

It's my grandmother's birthday today too. Happy birthday Mimi!

Looking Forward

I'm not sure exactly why, but I have a good feeling about 2010. Maybe it's partly because of all the awesome movies coming out this year. I'm dying to see Prince of Persia, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Last Airbender. So many of my favorite things all at once!

Narnia has been one of my most favorite things since I was about six years old and read the books. I also remember watching the old BBC versions with my grandmother on VHS (By the way, that purple dress Lucy is wearing? I had the EXACT same one, by coincidence). I've reread that series more than any other. This Friday, my wonderful boyfriend is taking me to Narnia!! It could quite possibly make my year.

I also don't know why I'm so excited about 2010 because I am sooo not excited about school. I'm not taking any classes I'm particularly excited about (but I'm hopeful about photo ii), and I have to take summer courses, which means a) less summer and b) fewer money-making days at Anadarko and c) less vacation time. The summer classes are ones I'd like but since they're wasting my summer, I can't be excited about them either. On the bright side, Jenni will be my roommate over the summer too.

I think I'm also hopeful for 2010 because a lot happened last year and I feel like I changed significantly, became a much better person. This year will be my first as that person.

I don't usually make new years resolutions because I forget about them and also I can set goals for my self throughout the year as needed. Like to be less lazy and work harder on my school work, to eat healthier and exercise more, and to finish what I start.

I've also been a lot happier I've the passed 6 months due to a life changing event in July, a wonderful thing in October, and the effects of attending church a lot more. I'm really glad I finally found one in Magnolia I like (and when I say "I found," I mean, "David found").

I also turn 21 this year. Weiiird.

And that's enough rambling for today.

Looking Back

So I figured I'd try posting an actual blog, and what better time to do that than the beginning of the new year? A lot of stuff went down in 2009, most of it was good, but not all.

Let's see. In April, I got to meet one of my favorite authors of all time, Meg Cabot. She's most famous for The Princess Diaries, which I think is ironic because that's basically her only (teen) series I haven't read.

That was also the last weekend I saw my dog, Macy. She died May 9. One day before I got home for the summer. Definitely the saddest thing that happened that year. I still automatically look out the window for her.

Also over the summer, I saw one of my favorite musicians of all time: Butch Walker. It was THE most epic concert ever. He played for a long time, he played a lot of my favorite songs, danced around the awesome club, and stood directly in front of me for several minutes. Seeing him was one of the things I wanted to do before I die, so I thought I could check that off my list, but now that I've seen him once, I want to see him again!!!

Also, on July 5 (and 6), I broke up with my boyfriend of nearly seven years. Seven. S E V E N. Definitely a big deal that year. Also a sad thing, but at the same time, it felt like a huge weight I didn't know I was carrying had been lifted. It was amazing, like I came back to life. I was giddy while still thinking, "OMG I'm going to die alone" (more on that later). It was really weird.

I also got to go on an amazing two-week summer vacation to New York and Ireland. In New York, we stayed with my dad's brother's family on Long Island. We spent most of the days in areas around there. One day we went to Six Flags in New Jersey with my cousins, Chris and Mark. It was freezing and pouring down rain. We were soaking, but at least the lines were short. The last 2 days we wentto New York City and spent the night in the Waldorf Astoria! We also saw the broadway musical Rock of Ages which had some guy from American Idol and was very good. Then we we went to Ireland, which was absolutely amazing. We stayed at a beautiful manor most of the time but took a lot of roadtrips to the cities nearby. The last few days, we drove all over. When I say all over, I mean it - I don't think there was anything we DIDN'T see. I learned that mead is gross and I also went to jail. I freaking love Ireland.

What was I talking about? Oh, right, 2009. Another thing I thought was a big deal was that I moved into my apartment with my roommate Jenni! It sounds so adult, but I don't feel like one at all. She is an awesome roommate. Actually, I've had nothing but good roommates. Definitely lucked out in that department.

And then there's the event of 2009 that made me the happiest. On October 30th, what I still consider a miracle occurred. Prepare to roll your eyes. I'll try to make this short, but I'll probably fail. I had to rethink that "I'm gonna die alone!" thing, because David asked me out. I had been developing a crush on him since I don't know when because I tried to pass it off as a random, passing thought, then as me freaking out about being single. By September, I'd run out of excuses. It had grown into something much more than a crush, and I could no longer ignore it, so, one by one, I told my friends. I also wanted their advice about the whole situation because I wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not since we're friends. I've never prayed about anything more in my life, but apparently God was thinking ahead (but of course) because apparently David started liking me around the same time! I never thought he'd EVER like me back... Like I said: Miracle. And I deffo went on too long. Forgive me?

The other major event in 2009 was the addition of a new member to our family. No, not what you're thinking. We got a puppy, Daisy. She's some kind of crazy, unknown mixed breed, but she came out cute so it works.

Aside from watching Coraline, weirdest/creepiest movie ever, 2009 had and amazing ending, and 2010 had an even better beginning.

I get to have brunch and shopping time with my best friend, then I get to see my wonderful boyfriend and one of my other closest friends and favorite people, the beautiful and talented Lindsey Guerrero.

So far, so good.
